Imagine using a samurai sword as a hammer or a screwdriver as a shovel, even though it could perform the task, but that’s not its true purpose. That’s what it feels like to “fit in.”

The Tool
I know when I pondered upon this question I began to wonder for not too long because I knew roughly what kind of knife I’d be by thinking in the negative. I know for sure I wouldn’t want to be a chainsaw or something that would be big and loud. I’d rather be something light and sharp like a samurai sword.
Just from these two perspectives allowed me to shine light into how I operate, I dont like to be bulky and noisy, I prefer to be quiet and swift. I began to ponder further and in most games that I play, I often times play character and classes that reflect such qualities. Then it hit me further as to what I would do with the type of knife that I’d be.
To what purpose would I want to exist if I were to be such tool? Personally, I’d imagine my self as a samurai sword existing to fight evil and bring light into the world. Those who wield such sword is to fight for justice and peace upon the world.
Only when the tool is used in the right condition and environment will it allow to shine because let’s suppose it was used as a hammer. The sword would be as a good as a shovel. Thus, it is important to position my self in the right field and areas where it allows me to shine.
Where It Belongs
I’d imagine my self working in hard construction work that requires physical labor, which is no problem to a degree, but it wouldn’t be where I would shine the most. By default, I excel in creative and action that flows rather than planning and physical labors, and use my brain more than my muscles. It differs from person to person and as such it is important to first understand what kind of tool, then place that tool in the right place to be of good use.
So if I was placed in such position that required the opposite, I would still be able to operate, but not at the optimal state. In a similar way, a screw driver can still be used to hammer nails, but it wouldn’t be as efficient as a hammer. Using a kitchen knife to cut a tree versus a chainsaw would be quite the challenge. Thus, to position my self in the right place, to perform the proper job will allow one to thrive and perform with ease.
As such, it is common in today’s world to compare every tool to every job, put any tool to perform any job. Use shovels as screwdrivers, use screw drivers as kitchen knives, use chainsaws as pliers all kind of wild placements are happening in today’s world and one wonder why they feel so lost and so out of place.
Finding The Tool
The good news is that everyone in the world has their place and plays an important role as to where they are and what they do. It is when the stressors in life, events and things that happen in life that begins to interfere into desperation. Using a shovel as a screwdriver is better than nothing, using a screw driver as a knife is better than nothing.
Using a spoon as a knife is better than no knife, in such one are forced to perform tasks that’s not properly suited for their being. So how does one come about finding and understanding what kind of tool they are?
The answer is easy but also difficult, the easy answer is, you already are the tool, the difficult part is realizing what and where you belong. Instead of spending time being “entertained” it’d be worthwhile to spend some time understanding this aspect as to the projection of one’s future depends on it.
Proper Placement
Upon understanding what kind of tool and where one belongs, the proper placement now becomes the next phase. Personally I knew I wasn’t a bulky and noisy tool, so being in an environment that required me to deal with bulky and noisy surroundings were not the optimal space for me. To be in an environment where it required me to be physically active is ok, but not ideal. As a sushi knife is quite sharp and swift, but it operates in a fast paced environment. As time moves on and the knife looses its properties, perhaps it moves into an environment where it’s used as a house kitchen knife instead. Slower pace, more tender upon the cuts and it is rather relaxing to be operating in such environments.
Understanding how much strength, the resilience, and how much before it breaks is essentially the lifespan of our lives. To be 80 and want to operate as a 20 year old knife has its own consequences. But to acknowledge that a knife that’s fresh and brand new has still much of its life span compared to a knife that’s been used for 80 years.
I quickly see my self as a light, swift, and a knife that’s made out of quality and love. Forged through tender discipline and care through time and love will be the result of my knife. It wasn’t until when I reached 30 when the knife felt like it was ready to be used, everything that have happened from birth to 30 was essentially the forging stage, the material that I’ve managed to pick up along the way, the lessons, the experience and everything to forge such knife has finally come to completion.
With such knife in my hand, what I decide to do with it and how I decide to use it will determine the projection of my future and the mark that i will either leave behind or leave forward.
